Last Sat. Jim and I went to an estate auction and ended up buying a few furniture pieces for our house. We also bought a newer fridge to replace our OLD faithful gal! Now, we are planning to do some painting in the kitchen and living room to update the place. Ideas are welcome for colors for the kitchen. I have made some plans with some friends to come next Tues and Wed to help me. Now, for peeling off wallpaper. . . .anyone have any great hints on how to do that easily?

get a wallpaper steamer. amazing. you'll never regret. it'll save your hands, nails, and sanity. they work like a charm and cut the time down taking off the wallpaper CONSIDERABLY. go. rent one right now. (you'll be so happy you did!)

Laura,
I've heard that you can put liquid fabric softner in a spray bottle (may have to mix with a little water if it is too thick) and spray on your wall paper). We used a steamer (which worked great --- but did make a water mess. We needed to have towels available).
Color ideas:
light coffee (coffee with alot of creamer) with white trim
light yellow (creamish yellow) with white trim

Laura -- I can't offer any advice on wallpaper (I'd follow Rosie's...she's had the experience with 30-yr-old paper!), but my suggestions for paint color is to go with something neutral and light (Linda's suggestions are good) since your rooms are small. Plus you get a lot of natural light, and that combined with a lighter color will brighten up the whole house. Keep your furniture and other decor simple, too -- you can liven things up with pillow and pictures, and you can change them easily when you get bored (as opposed to repainting!) DO NOT do wallpaper again, tho!
